UNCHAINED ELEPHANTS FIRST ELEPHANT RESCUE – KANOON
On the 24th of June 2023,we started our first elephant rescue mission in Thailand, with a bull elephant named Kanoon. Kanoon was an abandoned bull elephant chained up for 4 years in Mae Tang, Chiang Mai, in the scorching sun or pouring rain, with little to no food. With a mission to raise 650,000 baht ($19,118) inorder to secure Kanoon’s freedom and relocate him to a safe haven. We rallied the community, from NFT sales to crowdfunding, each step to unchain Kanoon as fast as we could.
With unwavering determination, we finally reached an amazing 661,852 baht ($19,466)! With the help of all our amazing supporters and matching donor – Karl, we exceeded our goal on the 14th of August at 10.55pm. Kanoon’s freedom was secured, his journey to a new life underway. Today, we are planning and began the process of rescuing and relocating Kanoon to his forever home at the amazing Boon Lott’s Elephant Sanctuary in Sukhothai – Thailand.
Our mission continues – as we aim to help support Kanoon’s care at BLES. Surplus funds plus donations for Kanoon’s care offer a “welcome buffet,” health care, nutritious food, and dedicated mahout care.
Kanoon’s rescue is a story of hope and unity, and without all you amazing support we could not have done this. Thank you for being part of this journey, transforming lives and crafting a better future for these majestic beings.
However, our rescue mission doesn’t end with Kanoon. Our commitment remains to:
- Educate travelers about the harsh reality of elephant trekking, shows, and more, while providing alternative experiences they can encounter elephants.
- Rescue other elephants, like Kanoon.
- Establish an educational center for locals, fostering a shift from exploitative elephant tourism to ethical practices.
